The arts are more than just a source of creativity—they play a crucial role in the early development of children. From improving cognitive abilities and emotional resilience to fostering social skills and problem-solving, artistic activities help children grow in ways that traditional classroom settings sometimes can’t. Parklane Elementary School, one of our school partners, has been a place where these invaluable opportunities have flourished, providing a creative outlet for countless young minds in East Point, GA.
This February Parklane is facing the threat of closure, and with it, the potential loss of arts programming that has been a cornerstone for so many of our community’s children. The arts are not just about producing future artists; they’re about developing well-rounded individuals who can think creatively, collaborate effectively, and express themselves confidently. Redistricting would also place added strain on the parents, who have to battle long commutes, the loss of support networks, and emotional distress for their children.
How You Can Help:
We believe that the South Fulton community can make a difference in this fight. Here are a few ways you can get involved:
1. Sign the Petition: Add your voice to the call for keeping Parklane Elementary open. Every signature makes a difference, showing decision-makers how vital this school is to our community. We’ve provided the link below.
2. Attend the Upcoming Board Meeting: Show your support in person by attending the next school board meeting scheduled for November 6th. A strong community presence will remind decision-makers of the impact of their choices. The meeting will take place from 6-8pm at Tri-Cities High School.
3. Donate to Arts Programming: Even small donations can help keep arts programs alive, ensuring that if the school remains open, the arts will remain a vibrant part of the curriculum. Click the link below to donate to our Power of 10 campaign so we can continue the work we’ve begun with their students.
4. Share on Social Media: Spread the word about Parklane’s importance and the critical role of the arts in child development. Use the hashtag #SaveParklaneElementary and share your personal stories about why the arts matter to you and your family.
Let’s make sure Parklane Elementary continues to serve the needs of their students. Thank you for standing with us in this fight.
