Women’s History Month

March is Women’s History Month and I often find myself reflecting on the incredible women who have helped shape my life and those that continue to inspire me. I could spend these few lines of this blog post talking about my incredible grandmother who taught me more than I can put into words, my Texas Mama who continues to teach me the ways of the South (and more importantly Texas), and the inspiration women who serve on our Board of Directors - all are worthy of these lines and many more. However, I would like to turn our focus to the women artists that are creating, dreaming, and courageously doing all of the things every day.

To Miriam Robinson and her 8ft crochet sculpture that is opening tonight the Echo Art Gallery; to Shannon M. Turner of StoryMuse that helps us all find our voices to tell our stories; to Angelica Hairston who continues to break the glass ceiling as a harpist; to Dr. Pendelton at Parklane Elementary School that inspires the next generations of student artists; to Ebony Blanding who is creating a film on Art in the Paint; to Stephanie Owens, ED of NBAF and an incredible artist; to Judy Walker for inspiring an entire community to paint; and to Jade Lambert-Smith for helping students find their love of theatre.

All of these incredible WOMEN artists show up every day. Every. Day. They lean in, they listen, and they create. They are my inspiration and I hope that you get the opportunity to know them and their work so that you too can be inspired by each of them.
