June 2024

As we make our way through the summer, I am called to appreciate the ways this season brings us together. Summer is the time for barbecues, flowers in bloom, and sun-drenched days. It is a time to embrace the vibrancy of life all around us. But amidst all that Summer has to offer, there is a deeper theme that resonates with our community: “Belonging Matters Here.”

One of the most beautiful aspects of summer is the way it brings people together. From neighborhood block parties to community sports leagues, there are countless opportunities to build connections. When we take the time to engage with those around us, we create a tapestry of relationships that enrich our lives and strengthen our community.

This month we have chosen to celebrate “Belonging Matters Here.” Our work at South Fulton Arts aims to cultivate a sense of belonging and value among our artists, staff and community members alike. We understand that South Fulton is a mosaic of culture and experiences. Each person brings a unique story and perspective, adding to the richness of our collective experience. This summer, we continue to celebrate our diversity by sharing and partnering on events like Kiara Gilbert’s solo art exhibit and the City of East Point’s Drag Down South show that give audiences a chance to step into a new story, culture and experience.

This Summer is a season of opportunity - to slow down and foster a true sense of community. By embracing “Belonging Matters Here,” we can all make this not only a season of fun, but one of meaningful connection and growth. So, as the days grow longer and the nights warmer, let’s continue to champion the power of inclusion, compassion and community.
