Art Can Be Self-Care
Most of us have probably become all too familiar with the hustle and bustle of life. The days never seem to have enough hours, and the delicate balance of work, fun, and family become more difficult to keep steady. As we continue to work against feelings of burnout, and exhaustion, many people turn to hobbies as an outlet and, many of us, turn to art.
When you imagine doing something creative, what are the feelings that arise? Some of your answers may be ease, joy, comfort, inspired; and that is why art can be an incredible form of self care. Art, in all forms, is one outlet that has endless possibilities, has no boundaries, and all can enjoy the benefits.
As feelings of depression and anxiety are on the rise in our communities, mental health care is an increasingly important task for all of us. Self Care Day is around the corner on July 24th, and we want to challenge you to set aside time for yourself. Studies have shown that taking just 20 minutes to practice art can have tremendous effects of stress relief and even boost self esteem.
Creativity is inherent to the human experience even if it’s been days, weeks or years since you allowed yourself to experience it. Use art however you like - keep it for yourself, or share it with those you love. I just hope it gives you a reason to turn away from the chaos and lean into the power of unbound expression.
