About Camilo Diaz
Camilo Diaz Caro is a Colombian director, writer, and producer based in Atlanta, Georgia, and co-founder of CineAstra, a production company established in 2021. Camilo’s interest in filmmaking began at an early age, sparked by a curiosity about how his favorite films were made, leading him to one day pick up the camera. This passion gradually developed into a career, driven by a love for visual storytelling.
Through CineAstra, Camilo and his business partner, Aidan Guthrie, aimed to create a home for their projects. As the company grew, they expanded their scope, producing over eight feature films and collaborating with talented industry professionals such Cheryl Hines and Justina Machado. One of his memorable experiences was seeing Popular Theory make its way to U.S. theaters.
In 2019, his script Violent Winds was selected for the Sundance Institute’s Screenwriters Intensive. His work focuses on telling authentic, emotionally resonant stories, and his upcoming project in development A Portrait of Two and How I Learned to Love reflects his ongoing interest in exploring human relationships. He is also preparing to direct the action feature Crusheta in the Dominican Republic.
Camilo approaches the challenges of filmmaking with a mindset of continuous learning. Whether it’s finding creative solutions for narrative complexities or managing the practical aspects of production, he’s always seeking to grow. He values the opportunities to also have collaborated with organizations such as the Atlanta Film Society, Georgia Film Academy, ARRI Rental, and Kodak.
